New drawbar wrench - spindle wrench - for mill drill ( )
Designed to hold the spline of the spindle drive shaft, this wrench allows one to torque the drawbar tight. Getting a sufficient and accurate torque is important for several safety and practical reasons including preventing tool slip and for tool height repeatability. No need to change gears or hang onto a collet, tool, or belt again. If a power drawbar is not a possibility, and your mill lacks a spindle lock, this wrench is the next best thing.
This wrench was designed around a six tooth spline, outside edges are rounded for comfort, a matte finish applied, and "U.S.A." is proudly cut into the face of each wrench for a special touch.
This wrench has been used on many Industrial Hobbies, Rung Fu, Zay, Grizzly, Enco, Harbor Freight mills and other import brands though creating an exhaustive list would be impractical. The measurements of the spline around which the wrench was designed are shown below and I encourage you to measure your spline and compare to the following measurements before ordering as there are mills with different spline dimensions. (All wrenches have additional clearance built-in to tolerate slight variations.) Please send a note if unsure of anything and I'll try to help.
When considering another spindle wrench, check if it comes with a satisfaction guarantee and how it is constructed. These wrenches are CNC milled in California, USA by a professional machinist from a single piece of 6061 aluminum with absolutely no ugly welds to break.
Please note that if your mill has a washer under the drawbar you may need to alter, remove it, or replace it with a step bushing. The washer OD is often larger than the minor diameter of the spline and thus prevents the wrench from slipping onto the spline.
A limited supply of an alternative size known to fit Jet 836 mills is available for those interested. Below are the spline dimensions of the alternative size. Please be sure to send me a note if you want this alternative size so I know you need one.
Attention: Neither wrench will fit the Grizzly G3616 vertical mill.
