3. Description: this is a 3.2 oz. (90g) piece of annealed pure unalloyed titanium, ASTM grade 1, metal that comes from a Diode (Di) TiTan element of an Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) Ion Getter Pump (IGP) by Gamma Vacuum, previously known as Perkin Elmer - Physical Instruments - Ultek, a really nice piece that have multiple uses. The material's tensile strength is expected to be 172 MPa, the Ti metal content is >99.7%. One surface of the sheet is smooth flat, another surface is patterned by the ion bombardment as shown. This Ti sheet was manufactured in the United States.
Titanium is a white metal, and has the best strength to weight ratio among the metals. Titanium is 40% lighter than steel and 60% heavier than aluminum. This combination of high strength and low weight makes titanium a very useful structural metal. Titanium also features excellent corrosion resistance, which stems from a thin oxide surface film which protects it from atmospheric and ocean conditions as well as a wide variety of chemicals.
Because of its high strength to weight ratio, titanium is used in a variety of applications, including products where weight is of importance such as aircraft, sporting equipment, electrolysis electrodes, medical implants, etc.. Because of its excellent corrosion resistance, titanium is also used for chemical processing, desalination, power generation equipment, valve and pump parts, marine hardware, and prosthetic devices.
