This Carl Zeiss has a sturdy base with column which serves as a firm support for the instrument. The microscope carrier can be moved up and down the column by adjusting a knurled ring, and it can be locked in position by the clamping knob.
A combined coaxial coarse and fine adjustment knob is provided for sharp focusing. By means of a ring, located between the microscope housing and focusing knob, the focusing drive may be loosened or tightened. During this operation the coarse adjustment knob at the right hand side has to be turned. The microscope can be pivoted and lowered on its column so that it can be focused on large or heavy work pieces which cannot be placed on the stage of the instrument. In the case of large flat work pieces, the instrument can be placed on the work piece and the microscope can be focused on the surface
