FARMER AND BIRDS (aka "GENTLE FARMER")
Artist..........................
Saturday Evening Post cover August 18, 1923
Rockwell loved clear-cut contrasts, and here he sets off the obvious strength of the farmer-muscles bulging in his arms-against the fragility of the bird he holds so gently in his powerful hands. Here Rockwell is showing us, in a posterish way, the natural bond between a man tied to the land by decades of hard work and a creature whose role in life is to soar above the countryside where the farmer toils.

This is a beautiful print demonstrating Rockwell's brilliant technique in extraordinary color and vivid detail. With prints of such high quality, "we can see his work as he never had before". This poster-quality book print has been extracted from a 1979 tribute to Rockwell's greatest pieces, portfolio collection.
In 1943 a fire in Norman Rockwell's studio destroyed many of his original canvases, and over the years many other Rockwell canvases were lost. Of the more than two thousand subjects seen in print, less than 10% could be located in the original, so that some colorplates had to be made from printed reproductions. People have gone to great lengths to keep his masterpieces "alive", reprinting from the original reproductions and old magazine covers. This 1979 high quality reproduction is just another that has been so carefully preserved.
Save money on picture framing. This is one of many of our prints that does not require any matting, if that is your desire. Because of its wide margins, this print was designed to fit perfectly in either a 10 x 13 inch frame or an 11 x 14 inch frame with no matting required, and at the same time attractively displaying the title and date of publication as a magazine cover. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Norman Rockwell was a storyteller with a paintbrush in his hand. Rockwell very aptly portrayed warm, decent hard-working citizens of a bountiful country, and preserved American scenes, making them palatable for future generations, reminding them of old values in times of rapid change.
