Thermax® Medium Thermal Carbon Black possesses unique characteristics that provide benefits in many applications: the largest particle size among carbon blacks, very low particle aggregation and one of the purest forms of carbon available.
High loading for cost reduction is only one of the benefits rubber compounders can expect from Thermax®. Easy mixing and good dispersion, excellent processing, smooth extrusion, excellent dynamic properties, low grit compounds, reduced compression set and low electrical conductivity are all part of the Thermax® advantage.
High temperature processes require high performance insulation materials to minimize energy loss and maintain ambient plant temperatures acceptable for personnel and equipment. Thermax® carbon black effectively addresses conductive, convective and radiative heat loss from furnaces and reactors at temperatures up to 3,000 ºC.
Thermax® can improve the melt flow index of black plastic compounds, resulting in reduced energy costs, improved productivity without capital investment and more highly loaded concentrates. Plastic article makers can benefit from better mold flow in highly filled compounds. As the least electrically conductive carbon black, it is the optimum choice for insulating applications.
Carbocolor® carbon black offers the concrete construction industry superior depth of color and color retention. Its large particle size and chemical inertness provide significant resistance to long-term weathering and aging, acids, alkalis and heat. Typical applications include paving stones (pavers) and roof tiles, as well as various cements and mortars.
When added to the resin before impregnation, Thermax® carbon black can increase carbon deposition thereby reducing the time and cost involved in densification of carbon-carbon composites. It is also a premier product for thermal insulation in CVI (chemical vapour infiltration) and graphitizing furnaces.
The particle size distribution and chemical purity of Thermax® make it an excellent product for porosity control in ceramics manufacturing.
